Lexicon (based on Thesaurus by Billy Collings)
This could be the latest model of a car
Or maybe the name of the vessel in Star Trek
But no, it is merely a book.
This book has many volumes, but no voice of its own.
These books, rather than create any content,
Merely pile together the bastard children
of an elaborate form of communication.
Pulchritudinous, hyperlexia ,
and a treacherous polysyllabic facsimile for the word “tired”
All wipe the spotless floors of their orphanage.
Their parents, Greek and Latin, have died long ago
And now leave them to wait for some hapless stranger
to thumb by, pick them up, and recirculate them or at least take them for a spin.
The red haired odd ball
With the three consecutive vowels and consonants that make it an unfair choice for hangman
Sits waiting in the threshold
Starring out towards the family reunion of the Thesaurus (treasury, not a dinosaur)
And longs to be with its relatives:
Egotistical, boastful, and the direct scion of its Roman father,
Narcissistic.
