Publishing Materials
You will be publishing your game to some public-facing platform (itch.io at the least). In preparation for that, divide up the following responsibilities. Be sure they are included in your weekly task lists. Please show any work-in-progress towards the following deliverables. Final versions will be submitted by the final presentation and subsequently graded.
To be honest, the trailer and screenshots you create for your game are how 95% of your audience (e.g., portfolio viewers) will experience your game. This stuff is important.
- Tagline. Write a tagline for your game. Make it unique – the shorter the better. A sentence is fine. A phrase is better.
(e.g., rhythm-based synthwave combat; an arcade shoot em' up where your actions dictate the speed of time itself; a fast-paced fighting game where you and everything around you is a weapon)
- Description. Write a short one to two paragraph description of your game.
(e.g., Space_Viking is a top-down horde survival game with bullet hell elements. Dash, shoot, and blast your way to victory with upgrades that will blow your alien enemies to smithereens! Dodge storms of bullets by using your abilities creatively. Wall off sections of the map with your crystal barrier, slice through enemies with an ethereal dash, or blast them to bits with your plasma shot skill!)
- Published Game Page. Please provide a link to the published game on itch.io or the platform of your choice. All of these materials should be included on your published game site. Choose appropriate colors, fonts, and add design elements.
- Screenshots. Prepare three to five of your best hi-res screenshots in the game.
- Animated GIFS. (not required for edu games) Create three animated GIFS of your game. Make these extremely short and small (less than 5MB). Make them impactful and representative of important game mechanics. Max three seconds long. You can use GIF Brewery (for Mac). Here are some options for PC.
- Trailer. Create a trailer for your game. You must include gameplay footage for your game. At least 50% should be actual recorded gameplay footage. I recommend recording 15-20 minutes of gameplay and finding the best stuff. It must be less than a minute long. If you have short clips, establish a rhythm. If you use text, make it readable (on its own or with a clear font w/outlines and or shadows).
