Homework

Revise and Polish Assignment

For this assignment, you will have the opportunity to continue working on a previous lab, assignment, project, or game you've made in or outside of class. Take this chance to make something "portfolio-ready," while thinking deeply about your portfolio's audience (e.g. how much time will an employer spend with my portfolio). Also use it as an opportunity to get feedback from the class about how you might improve your game. Consider playtesting. You may work with a teammate on a past project you've worked together on (limited to teams of two). Based on feedback from previous sections of 411, I've decided to devote the entire first few weeks of class to this.

This assignment must be different from your main project in the class.

Preparation

Please create a Trello site for the project, make sure it's public, and post a link from your class site.

Proposal

Please come to class with a proposal of what you are going to do (i.e. what project you'll be working on and what you'll be concentrating on). Be prepared to present it to the class and get feedback. If you are undecided what to work on, feel free to bring multiple projects you are considering. Please post the current build of what you will be working on to Trello. Be prepared to share gameplay with the class.

Please make sure you proposal includes the following:

  • Take a look at all previous work game-related work you've done. Select the three best projects to include.
  • Of these three projects, which needs extra work to make it portfolio-ready? It usually makes sense to choose your 2nd, 3rd or 4th best project.
  • What are this project's biggest flaws? Take a step back and critique the project.
  • What are you going to do within the next two weeks to address these flaws?
  • Provide a backlog of tasks to complete.
  • Map these backlogs to a schedule for the next two and a half weeks.
