Atmosphere (Mood / Immersion / Magic Circle)
In successful games, sound, music, and visuals repeatedly combine to help establish a mood or atmopshere that can enhance the player's experience and deepen their sense of immersion. Keeping the player in this state can be a nuanced balancing act. If any one of these elements feels out-of-place or discordant, that sense of immersion can break, immediately taking the player out of the game's world.
Note: If you'd like to use Unity to complete the assignment, that's probably fine. Just ask.
In this project, you will be asked to create a 3d space with an atmopshere that communicates a prompt (i.e., a state of being, feeling, or emotion). You will be using a tool called Vertex Meadow (scroll down to see some examples of what can be done), which facilitates the creation of simple 3d walking simulators in the browser.
To successfuly complete the project, please do the following:
- Define a color pallete that fits you prompt,
- Consider the space you plan on creating, think about what it might communicate (i.e., is it open, closed, tight, welcoming, hostile?) and make sure it matches you prompt ,
- Consider the texture of the surface of your world and ensure it evokes your prompt,
- Create a soundtrack that reinforces the feeling you are going for (e.g., music, ambient loop, personal narration).
NOTE: Be aware of Vertex Meadows' limitations when designing your spaces. For example, you cannot create two parallel horizontal planes.
