Foreign Lecture Series

This program is designed to expand the exposure of Quinnipiac's students and faculty to international leaders in a range of fields.  Speakers stay for a range of durations, usually seven days, and meet with students and faculty as well as give presentations, some of which are open to the public.

 

 

2009 SPRING:

Mr. Konrad Kreuzer, March 4, 2009

Bio: Mr. Kreuzer is Chairman of the Board, E.ON-Hungária.  E.ON Hungária Zrt is Hungary's leading energy provider, recognized as one of the country's ten largest companies in terms of revenue for years. Based on investments realized, E.ON AG has been the top investor in Hungary since 2006 through E.ON Energie, E.ON Hungária Zrt's majority stockholder, and through the Hungarian subsidiaries of E.ON Ruhrgas.  (For further information see E.ON website.)

2008 FALL

Dr. Anita Orban, CANCELLED

Bio: Dr. Orban is Executive Vice President of the International Center for Democratic Transition in Budapest. She is a foreign affairs columnist for Heti Valasz, one of Hungary's leading political weeklies, and served as the editor of its foreign affairs section. She has advanced degrees in international relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, and has taught at various universities in Budapest. Fluent in English, Russian, German, and Hungarian, Orban is a frequent speaker on foreign policy issues and contributor to journals published in Hungary, Poland, Estonia, and the UK.

2007 FALL:

Dr. Peter Akos Bod, October 22, 2007

Bio: Dr. Péter Bod was Hungary’s Minister of Industry and Trade from 1990 – 1991, President of the Hungarian National Bank from 1991 – 1994, and served on the Board of Directors at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) from 1995 – 1998. He is currently Head of Economic Policy Department at Corvinus University, Budapest, and Director for Corporate Programs at the Corvinus School of Management.

Dr. Gyula Bakacsi, March 18, 2007

Bio: Dr. Bakacsi is a Full Professor of Management at the Corvinus University’s (Budapest, Hungary) Institute of Management, Department of Organzitional Behavior. Dr. Bakacsi is Country Co-Investigator of international cross-cultural research project GLOBE (GLOBAL LEADERSHIP AND ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR EFFECTIVENESS) coordinated by Robert J. House, The Wharton School, Philadelphia, Penn., and Head of Research Project ECONOMY AND CULTURE - CULTURAL DETERMINISM OF FUTURE ORIENTED COMPETITIVENESS (BASED ON GLOBE RESEARCH), National Scientific Research Fund, project No T 046897 (OTKA)

Dr. Tamás Magyarics, February 4 - 8, 2007

Bio: Dr. Magyarics is a Professor of History at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest. He lectures at the Corvinus University (Budapest), the Institute for Graduate International and Diplomatic Studies (Budapest), and the Institute for International European Studies (Vienna). He is a Senior Research Fellow at the Teleki László Institute’s Center for Foreign Policy Studies (Budapest) and is Editor-in-Chief of Külügyi Szemle (Hungary’s Foreign Policy Review).

2006 FALL: Dr. Géza Jeszenszky, August 28 - September 1, 2006.

Bio: Dr. Jeszenszky was Foreign Minister of Hungary from 1990–1994, Member of Parliament 1994–1998, and Hungarian Ambassador to the United States 1998–2002. He is currently a professor at the Corvinus University in Budapest and lectures at the College of Europe, Warsaw Campus, Poland and the Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj/Kolozsvár, Romania.

2006 SPRING: Dr. Alfred Resich, February 5 - 15, 2006

Bio:  Dr. Reisch is a scholar of International Political Science. He currently teaches at the Economics University in Izmir, Turkey, and at the International Studies Center, Economics University in Budapest, Hungary. He’s also a lecturer at the NATO Partnership for Peace Training Center in Slovakia, and at the NATO School (SHAPE) in Oberammergau, Germany.
